The Painted Swagman - A Tribute to Waltzing Matilda
This book was a 'labour of love,' taking seven years in its research and making. The final painting in the book - Australian Spirit - is an endeavour to sum up the artist's love for the land, its people, and its future. The dedication says it all:
'This book is dedicated, in gratitude and admiration, to our early pioneers of all origins and our modern pioneers who continue to Advance Australia.'
The narrative running through the book is extracted from an early draft of the artist's first historical novel, later published as Conlan's Luck. All the paintings in the illustrated book show characters and events from the fateful journey of The Swagman. A map is included so you can track his travels.
